Thursday Morning Glory host Emma Gleason is joined in the 95bFM studio by actors Alex Tarrant and Niwa Whatuira, who star in the new local docu-drama Sgt Haane. Directed by Tearepa Kahi, the film tells the true story of L. Sgt. Haane Manahi, a soldier in the 28th Māori Battalion, covering his life, legacy and his company's critical attack on a fortified Axis post in Tunisia during World War II. Tarrant and Whatuira tell what it was like stepping into such big shoes, how they prepared, and what perspective can be gained from the powerful new film. Sgt Haane is released nationwide on April 30, with an additional 10 days of commemorative screenings from April 20-29, including Anzac Day.
For Fancy New Band today Huia was joined by Grey Lynn based rapper, Joe Foley who was showcasing his current project 'Sophisticated Sarcasm' to which the name says it all, he's able to blend well thought out lyricism, cheeky remarks and still pull a strong sense of vulnerability and honesty to his art.
Thursday Morning Glory host Emma Gleason talks to Frankie Curac and Nikkie Rich from Niko Ne Zna ahead of their Auckland shows. The Wellington-based Balkan brass band is heading up to play at Leigh Sawmill on Friday April 10 and at the Dalmatian Cultural Society in Tāmaki Makaurau on Saturday 11 April (tickets are still available for both dates). They discuss their distinctive sound, how the band started and what to expect from their live shows. After a hiatus following their first release in 2019, Young Baptistare back with new material. The Tāmaki Makaurau four-piece is comprised of vocalist and guitarist Hugo Collins, drummer Emlyn Williams, Tim Burrows on lead guitar, and Nico Fitzpatrick on bass.
